From his flat in London, MURUGIAH creates an alternative world. Masked figures, humanoid plants and giant butterflies move through kaleidoscopic landscapes. They appear in his sculpture, painting, printmaking and animation.

Some of MURUGIAH’s work is commissioned. He collaborates with bands, editors and campaigners who want to communicate a story, message or feeling.

MURUGIAH brings his personal experiences to all of his projects. He draws on his family history and childhood, incorporating references to Sri Lankan art and design, and 1990s pop culture. These visual influences are fused with his reflections on friendship, identity and belonging. These feelings are expressed through the characters that populate MURUGIAH’s world.
