Learn how to approach making illustration and art using hand-made tools and techniques with illustrator and artist Charlotte Mei.

This course is open to anyone wanting to explore different mediums and materials and welcome play and experimentation into their life.

Students begin taking inspiration from things they can actually see and remember: photographs, places, objects, people, interiors, plants, childhood imagery, found ephemera. Over six weeks, they gradually distort, combine and reimagine these references, creating images that feel simultaneously familiar and fantastical, playful and personal, across different mediums.

The course moves from painting, into collage and finally onto ceramics, so that the imagined world gradually becomes something physical and tangible.

Whether you are picking up a paintbrush for the first time or a working illustrator wanting to embrace handmade ways of working, this course offers the opportunity to trial different materials and create a body of work unique to you, as part of a friendly creative community.

Enjoy a mid-week creative escape over six weeks with hands-on learning in our Creative Studio guided by your tutor Charlotte Mei.

We offer a limited number of funded places on this course available for those facing barriers to entry, available on a first come, first serve basis. Please see below for more detail about how to apply.

Please note this course has been postponed and is due to run in early 2027. Please sign up to our Courses and Workshops(opens in new window) mailing list to be kept informed about the new dates once announced.
